Beatrix Potter was a pioneer of conservation. She loved life in the Lake District and became a prominent member of the farming community. Over the years she bought a large amount of local land, which she later left to the National Trust.

Here at the Attraction, we’re working hard to continue Beatrix Potter's legacy and minimise our impact on the environment.

Since 2022, we have donated 10 pence of every entrance ticket to Cumbria Wildlife Trust to plant trees in Eycott Hill Nature Reserve. Our visitors have already helped us raise over £30,000 which is enough money to plant well over 3000 trees and we hope to add many more to this.

What are we doing?

  • By donating 10 pence of every admission ticket to conservation, our visitors are helping us to help Cumbria Wildlife Trust plant in the local Eycott Nature Reserve. To date over 3,000 trees have been planted and we aim to plant many more.

  • We run two electric vans.

  • Our gardens are peat-free & organic.

  • Our incoming packaging is reused in our e-commerce department.

  • 99% of our lightbulbs are LED & we convert sun to energy on our roof.

  • Our 'tap to plant a tree' station gifts £1 per tap to an environmental charity to plant a tree and help combat Climate Change.

  • Our gift shop bags are all made from recycled paper

  • We have stopped printing Attraction leaflets

  • Our café coffee grinds & vegetable peelings are composted for our Peter Rabbit garden

  • We’re reducing plastic & recycling all we can.

  • In 2022 we replaced our theatre lights, changing our lantern stock from incandescent halogen lamps to the colour-changing light-emitting diode. The energy use reduction we anticipate coupled with our recent solar panel installation is part of our commitment to reduce the environmental impact of our day-to-day operation.

  • We support WWF by adopting vulnerable animals across the world.

  • We support WaterAid to help provide sanitation and hygiene to communities worldwide who need it.

  • We support Cumbria Wildlife Trust in their efforts to protect the Lake District habitat.

  • We also give donations to Derian House Children’s Hospice & Macmillan Cancer Support through free entry Attraction days and staff cake bakes.
