Remembering Richard Lucas, Peter Rabbit Garden Designer
Posted on
It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Richard Lucas, Garden Designer who created the Peter Rabbit Garden here at the Attraction and our thoughts are with his partner John and family at this very sad time.

Richard’s flair for design and his incredible eye for detail brought to life our small but perfectly formed show garden which reflects the kitchen and cottage gardens you see in Beatrix Potter’s illustrations. Richard created the garden in 2009 using local materials, including Honister slate and Furness bricks and researched unusual and traditional varieties of fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers which Beatrix Potter would have known and grown in her own garden.
In 2014, Richard designed a show-stopping Peter Rabbit Herb Garden for the Attraction to display at the RHS Chelsea Flower show. The garden brought to life the drawings and illustrations from Beatrix Potter’s famous little books and highlighted key iconic images from the Tale of Peter Rabbit. With Richard’s help, the Attraction won a coveted gold medal for this beautiful design.
His legacy lives on here at the Attraction and the creative vision he had for our garden is enjoyed by thousands of visitors every year. Listen to Richard, back in 2014, explaining more about the garden.
We have a little garden,
A garden of our own
And every day we water there
The seeds that we have sown.
WE love our little garden
And tend it with such care,
You will not find a faced leaf
Or blighted blossom there.
